Herbs

Thurs, Jan. 30th, 2025

Dear Ole Tyme Customers:

Update:

  • Temperatures in Northern Mexico and the Southwestern U.S. have returned to normal after weeks of cold weather.
  • Early January saw hurricane-force winds that caused wildfires in Southern California and Northern Baja, severely impacting herb production.
  • Strong winds and extended cold reduced herb supplies, especially basil, tarragon, and sage.
  • Slightly cooler temperatures and light precipitation are expected through the weekend, followed by a return to seasonal, dry conditions next week.

What to Expect:

  • Herb availability will depend on how quickly crops recover in the warming temperatures.
  • Logistical challenges at East Coast ports are limiting herb imports from Central America.
  • Weather patterns in February will be crucial for herb production in the western regions.
  • Supply shortages are expected in the near term.
  • There is uncertainty about potential tariffs on Canada and Mexico, currently on a 30-day pause, which could impact the produce industry.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your Sales Representative.

Thanks,
