Green Onions
Tomatoes
Mon, August 5th, 2024
Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
Tropical Storm Debby will bring heavy rain and historic flooding to portions of the Southeast. For tomatoes, specifically in areas of Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina. Rain will limit harvest in the region reducing availability. Meanwhile, California has been struggling with triple-digit weather for almost a month now and we are set to see a gap in supply the third week of August due to bloom drop. Quality is hit or miss as yields are below normal. Tropical Storm Debby will shift demand to California, which will add more pressure on already challenging tomato market.
- Near Term: TN, VA, and NC will see harvesting delays and rain-related quality issues, still too early to assess any long-term affects
- Baja and Central Mexican supplies remain light due to weather in the growing regions and crop transition
- Expect markets to remain active for the month of August and into September as overall production will be limited.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your Sales Representative.
Thanks,
Ole Tyme Produce
