Wed, August 16th, 2023
Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
Weather Alert: Tropical Storm Hilary
Tropical Storm Hilary has formed in the Pacific. Will likely strengthen into a hurricane by Thursday before it collapses in the cooler ocean waters to the north. Hilary has the potential to bring impacts to the Baja California Peninsula and portions of the southwestern United States this weekend.
- Current forecast models call for Hilary to turn into Category 3 or 4 hurricane by the time it reaches the Baja Peninsula, reaching peak intensity in 60 to 72 hours
- Expect Hilary to bring excess moisture to Southern CA this weekend; could bring several inches of rain and possible flooding in some areas under drought conditions
- Growers will assess any potential damage, if any, early next week
COMMODITIES THAT MAY BE AFFECTED:
Hot peppers, tomatoes, squash, green beans, cucumbers, green onions, and asparagus
Expectations: Expect this weather event to possibly disrupt availability and logistics. The system is expected to be downgraded to a post-tropical storm by Monday morning.
