Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
Upcoming Heatwave to Impact California & Southwestern Desert Crops
A strong high-pressure system will bring record-high temperatures (mid-to-upper 80s) to California and the Southwestern Desert regions in the coming weeks, creating challenges for growers as the season winds down.
What to expect:
- Lettuce & Leafy Greens – Good supply and quality but expect fringe/tip burn, elongated cores, epidermal peeling, and premature pinking during transit and storage.
- Spring Mix & Tender Leaf Items – Increased fringe burn, yellowing, weaker texture, and susceptibility to bruising in fresh-cut processing.
- Rising Insect Pressure – Warm temperatures will increase aphid, gnat, and thrip populations, making pest control a significant challenge.
Growers should prepare for higher crop sensitivity, quality concerns, and pest management difficulties as the heat persists.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your Sales Representative.
Thanks,
