Cantaloupe & Honeydews

Dear Ole Tyme Customers:

UPDATE: Melon shippers are facing increased demand with limited supplies. Both cantaloupes and honeydews are currently in a "demand exceeds supply" situation.

Offshore Melons: Yields are down 30–50% due to tropical storms in Guatemala. Relief from Costa Rica and Honduras is not expected until 2025.
Mexican Honeydews: Production is transitioning to Southern Mexico and is currently reduced.
Market Impact: Increased demand is driving market rates higher until additional supply becomes available from Costa Rica, Honduras, or Mexico.
Port Delays: Congestion at the ports is causing vessel delays, leading to inconsistent product availability.
Domestic Melon Season: The season has ended.

Expectations:

Pricing: Market prices are rising and fluctuating daily. Contracts remain a priority, and trigger pricing has been activated.
Supply: Limited day-of supply is available; prebooking is strongly recommended.
Substitutions: Suppliers may need to substitute with outside labels to fulfill orders.
Commitments: Suppliers will adhere to six-week averages and contract commitments but are not accepting new contracts until conditions improve.
