Dear Ole Tyme Produce Customers:

The supply situation on imported grapes has not improved. The vessel that is unloading In southern California was a week late and the next arrival isn’t expected until the end of January. The east coast has better supplies as more grapes normally arrive on the east coast than the west. That’s not to imply the supply there is adequate. The end of the Peruvian deal is short about 15 million cases compared to last year, and Chilean grapes are restricted due to a late start harvesting and logistical problems with the Panama canal. Importers don’t expect any real relief until mid-February when Chiles’ volume picks up. Until then most shippers will be concentrating on covering contracts and market grapes will be scarce.

  • Grape supplies remain very tight on both coasts
  • Vessel delays affecting the West coast supply
  • Peru finishing early on a much smaller crop than last year
  • Chilie starting harvest 10 days late
  • Most shippers focusing on contracts and have little volume for the spot market
  • Better volume not expected until mid-February
