Melons
Melons
Wed, Nov. 20th, 2024
Dear Ole Tyme Produce Customers:
UPDATE: The Domestic Melon season is nearing its end. While some fruit is still available, quality is a concern due to the cold front in California. Shippers are facing higher demand, and supplies are limited. East Coast distributors are being supplied with Offshore fruit from Guatemala via Florida.
As demand increases, market rates are expected to rise until additional Offshore Melons arrive in California, Texas, and Pennsylvania/Delaware. Mexican Cantaloupes and Honeydews are available at a higher market rate.
Expectations:
- Cantaloupe demand is higher due to reduced yields.
- Some suppliers are sold out of Domestic melons, and the season is nearly over.
- Contract orders remain a priority, and suppliers will cover with Domestic or Offshore fruit.
- Some suppliers are sold out of Domestic melons, and the season is nearly over.
- Market prices are expected to rise through the end of the week and into Thanksgiving, driven by colder weather and reduced supply.
