Dear Ole Tyme Produce Customers:

High temperatures are expected from Tuesday, 10/1, to Sunday, 10/6, reaching 90-95°F along the coast and 95-105°F inland. Growers are worried about the impact on strawberry crops.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

The Salinas and Watsonville harvests are late in the season, likely forcing many growers to send their produce to processors.
This heat may significantly accelerate the end of the season in these regions.
Salinas will be most affected, with many fields situated inland where temperatures will peak.
The Santa Maria and Oxnard areas will also experience high temperatures, impacting all of California.
We anticipate a stronger market due to reduced fruit availability amid high demand.
Harvesting will need to be completed earlier than usual for safety reasons, further limiting supply.
