Stawberries
Strawberries
Mon, September 30th, 2024
Dear Ole Tyme Produce Customers:
High temperatures are expected from Tuesday, 10/1, to Sunday, 10/6, reaching 90-95°F along the coast and 95-105°F inland. Growers are worried about the impact on strawberry crops.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- The Salinas and Watsonville harvests are late in the season, likely forcing many growers to send their produce to processors.
- This heat may significantly accelerate the end of the season in these regions.
- Salinas will be most affected, with many fields situated inland where temperatures will peak.
- The Santa Maria and Oxnard areas will also experience high temperatures, impacting all of California.
- We anticipate a stronger market due to reduced fruit availability amid high demand.
- Harvesting will need to be completed earlier than usual for safety reasons, further limiting supply.
