- Temperature: Recently experienced consecutive days above 100°F, now cooling to the mid-90s.
- Impact on Crops:
- Heat-related issues expected to compromise the quality and shelf life of nearly all crops.
- Specific defects include fringe burn, tip burn, sun scalding, and wilting.
- Harvesting has been cut short due to extreme heat.
- Quality defects anticipated to persist through October.
General Weather Trends
- Continued Heat: Hot temperatures expected to persist early this week in California, especially affecting lettuce and leafy greens.
- Tropical Systems: Monitoring active tropical systems in the Gulf of Mexico, with a 40% chance of developing into another storm or hurricane.
- Impacts on Farming:
- Damage assessments ongoing in the Southeast from Hurricane Helene, with severe impacts noted across regions from South Florida to Tennessee.
- Fall supplies expected to be problematic due to these weather events.
