Sustainability
Our success as a company depends on the continued health of our communities.
Quantifying Sustainability Efforts
At Ole Tyme Produce we are committed to helping quantify sustainability efforts with every partner, facilitate continuous improvement at every link, and ultimately strive to create a future for conscious production and consumption.
We are an active participant of Greener Fields Together which serves as a sustainability program for all involved in the produce chain, from field to table and all connections therein. As part of GFT, we have committed to the Greener Fields Together Waste Reduction Pledge, through which we are working to reduce our organizational risk, environmental impacts, and operational costs.
Our on-site Green Team operates to reduce waste, as well as to track and report our waste reduction progress to Greener Fields Together. Our Zero Waste Initiative is aimed at reducing our carbon footprint and energy use through simple practices embedded in the design of our state-of-the-art facility such as our on-site recycling program, motion-triggered LED lighting throughout our facility, and even electric car charging stations in our parking lot.
A Supply Chain Supported by Everyone
As intricate and far-reaching as the food supply chain is, a committed effort and cooperation is needed from everyone involved. To ease the “all or nothing” stance that is often tied to many environmental agendas, Ole Tyme Produce believes in promoting manageable change as a more receptive strategy to achieving long-term sustainability. Together with their partners, Ole Tyme Produce proves how effective supply chains can be when goals are achievable, results are meaningful, and everyone receives the support they need.
“Our success as a company depends on the continued health of our communities. The health of our communities requires the ongoing well-being of the food supply chain. The well-being of the food supply chain means maintaining healthy eco-systems. Healthy eco-systems depend on forward-looking, environmentally-responsible agri-business practices at every level of the agriculture and foodservice industry.” – Joan Daleo, President of Ole Tyme Produce, Inc.
Safer Produce from Seed to Fork
Greener Fields Together provides a sustainability program for the entire produce value chain. Through the GFT program, we engage and involve farmers, distributors, commercial and non-commercial foodservice operators, and retail locations in efforts to work toward safer produce from seed to fork.
We help quantify sustainability efforts with every partner, facilitate continuous improvement at every link and, ultimately, strive to create a future for conscious production and consumption. We do that through various ways.
- Large national farms and processors are engaged in making continuous sustainability improvements to their growing, harvest and post-harvest activities.
- Local farms are supported with financial and educational resources to nurture greater availability of locally grown produce.
- Distributor partners are monitored for ongoing, measurable sustainability improvements. (i.e. purchasing of local produce; food safety; conservation of resources, etc.).
- Hospitality and retail operators who commit to the Greener Fields Together supply chain and embrace and support sustainability in their own operations can proudly display the Greener Fields Together logo so patrons can see their commitment to sustainability and local produce.
